I Support You

It doesn't matter if you're thinking about starting a blog or have already started one, there are going to be people in your life that just don't have belief in this thing.

Right when you tell them you want to blog they will roll their eyes and give you that look like they know this isn't going to work and it's a dumb idea.

Screw them.

I don't care if they are loved ones or acquaintances or strangers.

Screw them.

You could tell them that you're planning on starting a business where you reach thousands of people a month and provide them with value that enhances their lives (aka blogging) and those people in your life would still scoff.

It doesn't matter.

What does matter is how much you listen to them. Some people just don't understand that you don't want to be like the rest of the world where someone else controls your future.

Some people just don't believe they are at the level of starting a business.

Some people just don't believe enough in themselves and that means they don't have the power to believe in you.

Screw.

Them.

People hate the world selfish but it's not always a bad term. You're doing this for you. You need to be selfish.

Sure, maybe you're doing this to spend more time with your family or helped out loved ones BUT you're still doing this for YOUR reasons.

So be selfish.

Let the people in your life know that you're being selfish for your very good reasons. They can either get out of the way or disappear but what they can't do is stand in your way.

That just won't do.

Look, you're going to get in your own way plenty of times in this journey, you don't need the people in your life to help with that. You need them to pick you up and push you forward. You need them to let you know they got you covered.

If they can't do those simple things then trust me when I say you won't have the energy to fight the and LIFE when it comes to trying to grow your blog.

Lots of people are attracted to blogging because deep down they want more from themselves. That's called ambition. If you wanted to go to Harvard Business School nobody would say you're wasting your time. They would encourage you (at least I hope they would).

Just because blogging is called blogging (what a stupid ass term) it doesn't make it any less special.

Please, please, please understand that I support you. Hopefully I'm not the only one.

PS: This is an important PS so read the damn thing. If you get people in your life on your side then you sure as shit better put your best effort into this because if they see you not busting your ass on this then they will just roll their eyes at every venture after this one.

Trust me, I've been there.

That means you have to understand that growing this blog thing requires sacrifice. Most people can't handle that. They don't want to sacrifice anything in their lives to make this work but it's what you need to do unless you have a 5-year plan to finally reach 10,000 pageviews.

I've had people support me and then watched as that support deteriorated because I couldn't get my shit together. I don't blame them. You can only have faith in people making this thing work for so long before you start thinking maybe it's not for them.

You aren't going to be that person and if you think there is even a hint of that person in you then I'd question whether this journey is for you.

I think it is for you, though.

So let's get at it.
